SUNDAY, MARCH 13, 2022 AT 2:00 AM HERE IS A FRIENDLY REMINDER TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD THIS UPCOMING SUNDAY, MARCH 13TH AT 2:00 AM.
Did you know that it is often believed that one of our Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, was the inventor of Daylight-Saving Time (DST)? This is a common misconception. He never actually proposed changing the clocks. While living in Paris, he instead suggested that the citizens wake up earlier to save money on wax candles and lamp oil that was being unnecessarily overused. In reality, at the beginning of the 20th Century, New Zealand scientist George Vernon Hudson and British builder William Willett were the first two men that suggested shifting the time on the clock forward or back. Germany was the first to implement the plan in 1916, whereas it wasn’t until March 19th, 1918, that the United States adopted the Standard Time Act. The Standard Time Act, also known as the Calder Act, was the first United States federal law implementing Standard time and Daylight-saving time in the United States. Currently, over 70 countries around the world observe DST to make better use of daylight and to conserve energy. (https://kmph.com/news/nation-world/history-behind-daylight-saving-time) |
